The Sharma’s are a middle class family. They stay on the banks of Allahabad in a sprawling cottage called Hari Nivas. Hari Nivas was built by Hari Prasad Sharma, his wife Savitri and their three sons. It was entirely a personal effort of love and affection that went into the building of Hari Nivas. Hari Nivas is a happy and peaceful home.
Viraat the eldest son is married to Kalyani and they have two college going children Aditi and Aditya. Shiv is married to Indu and they have a son Babloo studying in primary school. Narendra the youngest son marries Lakshmi the ideal bahu…! The widow Sayani Bua and her daughter Kamakshi too stay here. The ever dependable Kancha is the servant of the house.
The Sharma’s face a severe financial crisis that entails the selling of the shop… The brothers do their best to keep the shop, but fail. To add to their pressures is the death of Hari and the financial necessities of Kamakshi’s wedding. As the financial difficulties grow…Savitri manages to unite the entire family under one cause… of being together and fighting together as a unit… to their surprise they win most of the battles…and they tide over their financial difficulties with ease!
One day they get an offer from a rich builder to sell their house. The family is facing at that time their biggest financial problem… but Savitri and the others remain sure footed and refuse the lucrative offer. They are confident to fight this new problem and be victorious… But the problems grow… the villains of the story enter as a mother, son, daughter trio… and they try their best to break the happy joint family and convince them to sell their home…! Savitri refuses because for her Hari Nivas is like her husband. The children’s father… And you don’t sell your father!
Savitri and Lakshmi fight tooth and nail to prevent the sale… Slowly their beliefs and unity starts to crack under the scheming trap laid by the villainous trio… The family finally sells! The joint family breaks into nuclear bits and shifts out with their share of money. Thereafter, Savitri and Lakshmi join hands and fight to bring the family together. It’s a combined effort of Saas & Bahu that finally sees success and fulfillment!
