Teri Meri Kahaani Music Review

Teri Meri Kahaani travels through three different times which have very little in common, whether we talk about society, economics or music. Naturally, Teri Meri Kahaani has a lot of scope to have some breathtaking music ranging from old school classical numbers to gel well with the settings in Lahore about a hundred years back to Bombay when it was in its infancy gearing up for Bollywood stardom to 2012 London where there is enough scope for techno beats and to do something absolutely state of the art. Also since it is a love story, essentially, pairing up Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra (both very good dancers), there should be some foot tapping numbers as well. Kunal Kohli comes back after giving us some amazing film music albums with Fanaa, Hum Tum and the likes and teams up with Sajid Wajid (music directors) and celebrity lyricist Prasoon Joshi.

‘Mukhtasar’ is where Atif Aslam’s famed genre meets techno. It is clearly a fusion that has a soulful and energetic beat entangled with every word of the song. Wajid sings it in style and the duo Sajid Wajid definitely pulls out a number that is going to become the flavor of the monsoons in the pubs. However, it falls short of becoming an ultimate dance track and does not turn out to be a phenomenal love song.

‘Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff’ would take you to the rock and roll days of the golden era of Bollywood. A time when cabaret was a must just like today’s item numbers! ‘Jabse Mere Dil Ko Uff’ has been well sung by Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan but for some reason the composition sounds too clichéd and overused. Many listeners may like it though but perhaps I was in the anticipation of something unique and not those tried and tested beats and melody.

Up next is ‘Humse Pyaar Kar Le Tu’ and Wajid dons the singer’s hat once again. He does not disappoint nor does Mika Singh. However, once again Sajid Wajid does not have a belter up on their sleeves. ‘Humse Pyaar Kar Le Tu’ may not convince you to fall in love but is a decent experience nonetheless. Possibly a reason why this song may just be well received would be because of Shreya Ghosal who simply cannot set a wrong foot as far as singing is concerned.

The last song ‘That’s All I Really Wanna Do’ brings together two Bengali talents Shaan and Shreya Ghosal and they both perform well. Sajid Wajid plays it safe with a conventional tune which may not impress the music fanatics.
