Jodi Breakers Music Review

The music director duo of Salim Sulaiman is back after their successful outings in ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ where they had absolutely usurped the shehnai for more than a year at different wedding parties and more recently ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’. The latter was not as popular as the former but certainly managed to generate more hype than their music in ‘Love Breakups Zindagi’.

Jodi Breakers music is just about average. The most awaited song of the movie was perhaps ‘Bipasha’ featuring the lead actor Bipasha Basu putting up what apparently seems like an item song. Now, the song lacks punch, the choreography of the song is also not as impressive as the likes of Munni or Sheila and as a matter of fact, the song even tries to be a Sheila. Watch out for the lines ‘I’m not so easy…. You can never ever get Bipasha’. Seriously, didn’t we have Katrina declaring ‘Tere Haath Kabhi Na Aani’ in ‘Sheila Ki Jawaani’.

Just when one thought Samil Sulaiman would do a much better job going forward and this time he had some trusted lyricists in Shabbi Ahmed and Irshad Kamil, they just fail to impress you with ‘Jab Main Tumhare Saath Hoon’. The song is not that bad but there is simply nothing new in it. The song belongs to the mandatory inclusion of a semi love song for any rom com.

Shafqat Amanat Ali and Clinton Cerejo do a good job in ‘Darmiyaan’ which has a nice melody but the lyrics put them down being ordinary. Salim Merchant picks up the microphone for ‘Kunwara’ which had the intention of making it big on the dance floors but this is again a song that does not live up to its expectations. In reality, what Jodi Breakers’ music misses out on is that essence of being songs of a rom com. The movie is about breaking relationships and the execution is funny hence there had to be a certain youthful feel with a lot of energy and punk. Sadly, Salim Sulaiman fails to deliver an impressive soundtrack which could have helped the movie to garner more attention.

Whatever interest people have shown in the movie’s album have been an outcome of extensive promotion and not a direct result of good music.

The only two songs that impress in the album are Shrraddha Pandit’s ‘Mujhko Teri Zaroorat Hain’ and Shreya Ghosal’s reprise version of ‘Darmiyaan’. There are several instances in many songs where one can see clean inspirations from various Bollywood numbers (chartbusters). Inspiration is not a bad thing as long as there is some uniqueness and sadly in ‘Jodi Breakers’, there isn’t a song that can be truly called unique and brilliant.

Salim Sulaiman had delivered several hits in ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ and one was hoping that they would continue to get better but they were fairly okay with ‘Ladies Vs Bahl’ barring a song or two and they are not impressive in ‘Jodi Breakers’.

In short, you may want to keep listening to the songs on the radio and not spend money on the CD.
