Blood Money Music ReviewThere is one thing synonymous with Mahesh Bhatt, Vikram Bhatt and Emraan Hashmi – their movies would inevitably have some amazing music, great lyrics and viral tunes. Although ‘Blood Money’ is not an Emraan Hashmi movie (it stars Kunal Khemu) and this time the Bhatts have gone with Jeet Ganguly as the music director and Vishal Mahadkar as the director, the songs of Blood Money are, to put it simply, impressive.
Jeet Ganguly who is a name to reckon with in Tollywood (Bengali film industry) is not much known to the Bollywood audience. Jeet and Pritam were a team much before Dhoom happened for Pritam and recently they have teamed up once again. However, Blood Money is solely Jeet’s baby and although the Bengali audience would find similarity in the tunes of Blood Money and some of the latest Bengali blockbuster songs that Jeet himself has lately belted out, you would be nothing but mesmerized with the music of some songs of the movie.
Chaahat is an ultimate romantic number with a beautiful tune that is hummable. Jeet has blended in the right mix of distortion and the octaves and it is all set to become a chartbuster. One can imagine the young love birds glued to their iPods listening to Chaahat. What more is that the song has been sung by the magician called Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (his ‘Teri Meri’ from ‘Bodyguard’ is still indelibly etched in our audio chords). Mustafa Zahid impresses with ‘Gunaah’ and it is another impressive track of the album. Whereas Chaahat is fairly different from the original Bengali song ‘Ek Mutho Swapna’ from the movie ‘100% Love’, Jeet’s ‘Gunaah’ resembles its original a lot.
The third on the playlist is ‘Jo Tere Sang’ which has also been sung by Mustafa Zahid. This is straight out of the original with every chord and everything about the song exactly as it was in ‘Khujechi Toke’ from the Bengali movie ‘Josh’. The track is more of a dance number and would perhaps turn into a regular for pub hoppers. ‘Teri Yaadon Se’ is a contemporary techno mix which is again aimed at the youth and the dance floor and although Mustafa is impressive in this one as well, the song does not manage to be much different from all the songs we have been listening to for a few years now. ‘Teri Yaadon Se’ is strictly okay and just about fills the space of another track in the movie.
Finally, ‘Arzoo’ which goes the Punjabi Bhangra way and also brings along the acoustic guitar playing prominently is also just about average and would not be able to impress many.
Jeet Ganguly has managed to churn out a nice album but it is still the three ‘Chaahat’, ‘Gunaah’ and ‘Jo Tere Sang’ out of the five songs of ‘Blood Money’ that are really impressive. If one has to be a little overtly critical then it is actually ‘Chaahat’ and ‘Jo Tere Sang’ that stand out from the ‘Blood Money’ album. Considering Jeet has just started his Bollywood journey one can expect some great music from him in the future.
