Agent Vinod Music Review

Alright, so we have Saif Ali Khan’s ambitious Agent Vinod’s music album at hand and we have a playlist that starts with a fusion dance number, runs through a romantic number and ends with the theme music for the film.

The item song ‘I’ll Do The Talking’ is far from a Chikni Chameli or Munni. It is not only the choreography of the song that does not impress, nor do its lyrics, tune or the music arrangements. We have had several of such songs and regretfully Pritam does not come up with anything new with this opening track of the album.

‘Raabta (Kuch To Hain)’ is nice. It has a soulful melody and a different tune. When the song starts you tend to dislike the way the song unfurls but a minute into it, you are immersed into Kuch Toh Hain Raabta. The lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya does justice with the words of this one.

I have absolutely no idea what purpose ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ and ‘Pungi’ have in an album which is supposedly of a movie that is centered around an Indian spy who sprawls across different continents on missions. Dil Mera Muft Ka is a fusion of multiple genres. There is Mujra, relics of Qawwali, techno beats and is also almost a remix. The lyrics are nothing great in this one and if you happen to watch the video, you would only manage to see Kareena who looks beautiful again but she is certainly not the apt choice for the song. Then we have Mika’s ‘Pungi’. Where in the movie would this song appear? I don’t know the answer and although Mika would make his masses very happy with the song and perhaps that is what the aim of Saif is (Agent Vinod is his co production) but the classes would certainly be unhappy with this one. ‘Pungi’ which tries to cash in on ‘Bidi Jalailey’ and ‘Munni’ types of lyrics but Amitabh fails to entertain with this one.

Hamsika does a great job with ‘Raabta (Siyaah Raatein)’. As a matter of fact her rendition of the song is much better and you would absolutely fall in love with the song. Pritam goes on to show how talented he is and why he is one of the best music directors in Bollywood. Only if he could impress in all the songs of the album, Agent Vinod album would have been a must buy but sadly that is not the case.

There are a few remixes which are just about acceptable but not worth a mention. Lastly the theme music of Agent Vinod is a blend of punk and techno and is far away from what a spy thriller demands. Can we have a Hans Zimmer in Bollywood for background scores and theme music for movies of this genre?

Quite expectedly, Agent Vinod has not generated enough buzz with its music and we hope our beloved Kareena Kapoor and suave Saif Ali Khan do not run along the same fate with ‘Agent Vinod’ as they had with ‘Kurbaan.’
