When SLB Films, that is the production company of Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to be one of the producers of Rowdy Rathore (the other producer being UTV Motion Pictures), it was more of a shock than surprise. Bhansali’s Sawaariya may have been a disaster but it launched Bollywood’s current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor and let us not forget the all time blockbusters Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and the critically appreciated Black, Guzaarish and Khamoshi. What shocked us was that Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a writer himself, would want to do an all out action movie such as Rowdy Rathore and that too as a producer and not as a director.

Moreover, Rowdy Rathore is one of a kind incident in Indian Cinema. We are not saying that it is a path breaking film already but it is the epitome of remake culture in India. Vikramarkudu, Siruthai, Veera Madakari, Bikram Singha – The Lion Is Back and Rowdy are all but the same film. The only difference is that the film had been originally made in Telugu (Vikramarkudu) and the Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and Hindi versions have followed. Strangely, some of the remakes are set to release almost around the same time all across the country. Now, that’s what we call true Indian spirit. Since there are so many languages, why not have one successful movie made on several languages. Do we see a Gujrati, Punjabi and Bhojpuri Rowdy Rathore? Possibly!

Anyway, Rowdy Rathore brings together Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. The Karate man, the favorite Khiladi of Bollywood had been away from action films for a while and had been only into comedies. Rowdy Rathore brings him back to actions as a rowdy crook and then as a cop. The trailer would certainly set you for some gravity and logic defying actions and stunts and also some comic instances to cater to the masses. What the trailer will not tell you is the story of the film, so here it goes.

Rowdy Rathore is a small time conman who keeps bumping into trouble until he spots Priya (Sonakshi Sinha) and falls head over heels instantly. He gatecrashes a wedding where besides Priya, a young girl mistakes Akshay’s character as her dad. The reality is that Akshay Kumar plays a double role, one of which is a conman and the other of which is an IPS officer. The IPS officer suffers a poor fate in a small town that is ruled by the Mafia, landlords and the politicians. Rathore is the only messiah the residents of the town can count on. So gear up while Rathore gets ready with his ‘fatka’ that is ‘440 ka jhatka’ and his fearless cop cum conman act.

Famous dancer, actor turned filmmaker Prabhu Dheva is the director of Rowdy Rathore and the film also stars Paresh Ganatra and Maryam Zakaria in an item number. It is being rumored that Karisma Kapoor is also doing an item song for the film but we do not have a confirmation on that yet. The music of Rowdy Rathore has been composed by Sajid Wajid and the choreographers are the all time favorite Saroj Khan and Master Prabhu Dheva himself. The film is slated to release on 1st June 2012.

Akshay Kumar fans have reasons to rejoice and must watch the film else as Rowdy Rathore says “Don’t angry me”.
