We have had “Deewana” and “Ek Haseena Thi” and it is time to brace up for Ek Deewana Tha in this season of Valentines. Prateik Babbar is back and this time not fighting against reservation or playing a coy guy but as a guy next door who is head over heels for the beautiful Amy Jackson.
Now, people who have seen the Tamil film “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa” do not need any introduction to Ek Deewana Tha. Gautham Menon has decided to make his film in different languages as the film has always been remade in Telugu a year back. Do we expect a director to make a movie in one regional language and go on making the same movie in all other Indian languages? Well, it sounds like a nice strategy but it makes very little sense from the cinematic perspective. Continue reading “Ek Deewana Tha – Movie Preview” »

First look poster of Agent Vinod
After several delays in shooting schedules and hassles over the release date and underlying gossips about the lead pair wishing to get married after the film’s release, finally we have the first look of Agent Vinod. Starring real life couple Saif Ali Khan (in the title role) and Kareena Kapoor, Agent Vinod is produced by Eros Entertainment and Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films.
The film is set to be an edge of the seat action thriller. Saif plays Vinod, a spy whose real identity is confided from any and everyone. It is uncertain what exactly the plotline is all about but at this moment one can only expect some death defying stunts, car chases and some adrenalin pumping action sequences. Reports have it that Kareena Kapoor who is also playing a different character than the normally insignificant female lead in Hindi movies, has herself done quite a few stunts that would leave the audience in complete awe.
Agent Vinod has been shot in Mumbai, Morocco and Latvia. Written by Sriram Raghavan and Arijit Biswas, this is Sriram’s third Hindi film after the critically successful Ek Haseena Thi and Johny Gaddar. Going by the past movies of the talented filmmaker who shot to fame after his documentary on notorious serial killer Raman Raghav, one can only expect an exhilarating ride. The music of the film has been composed by Pritam and the audio launch would prove crucial to create further hype leading on to the release of Agent Vinod in March.
Saif Ali Khan is definitely looking sharp with his chiseled face and well toned physique and Kareena is as usual a treat to the eyes. However, the trailer does not let much out about the story and apprehensions are running high if the movie has anything unique and innovative to offer at all or is it just another run by the mill trying to be a Bourne or Ethan Hunt.
Jodi Breakers, R. Madhavan’s second outing as a solo hero in as many movies, has been slapped with plagiarism charges. Bollywood is not new to such charges and music directors have been consistently embroiled in similar controversies. However, as far as producers and filmmakers are concerned, in most cases they buy out the rights of the original to avoid any hassles later.
It is being said that Jodi Breakers has resemblance to the Belgian movie “Heartbreakers”. In most cases, such allegations are settled behind closed doors and in some cases the about to be released movie turns out to be loosely inspired by the original. While not many would know since Jodi Breakers has not released and most people have not seen “Heartbreakers”, it is likely the controversy would fuel the promotional activities and hype the film further. Negative hype created for Ajay's Tezz
Not all is well for Priyadarshan and his producer Ratan Jain. Soon after the first look and the first official trailer of the Ajay Devgan starrer Tezz was released, the magnanimous fan base of South superstar Mohanlal have been more than upset.
The trailer features Mohanlal to an extent similar to what we saw of Anil Kapoor in the trailers of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. (We should add a footnote here that the initial trailers of the latest Tom Cruise blockbuster did not feature Anil Kapoor at all and it was only at the displeasure of Indian fans did the producer pull in some footage of the Indian star). This story is going to be repeated with Tezz. Bowing under pressure and running a risk of upsetting the huge South Indian movie audience, Priyadarshan and Ratan Jain may launch a trailer or two over the next few days that show a bit more of Mohanlal. Presently the actor has been completely sidelined in the teasers and justifiably since he only has a cameo and does not have a major role in the movie. Tezz is essentially a movie of Ajay Devgan and Anil Kapoor. Continue reading “Tezz generates negative hype” »
It is all about promotions and marketing campaigns these days. Producers, Directors and Actors are all busy finding a new and unique way to promote their films and while most go down the same treaded path to success, someone has come up with a novel, unique and interesting idea to promote his upcoming release.
Imran Khan had started posting videos that show behind the scenes action on a blog. These videos were religiously taken at the sets of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and have been generating quite a buzz off late. No, these videos are not those age old jokes and mundanely funny behind the scenes actions but pretty interesting and new age actually. Let us clarify something at the very beginning – Karan Malhotra’s ‘Agneepath’ is not an outright remake of Mukul S. Anand’s Agneepath. Yes, the names of the films are same and so is the central plot and the characters but that is about it. Karan Johar’s Agneepath can be called an adaptation of the original cult classic, homage or a loosely inspired remake but not a remake in its entirety. There are numerous reasons to establish that fact. Continue reading “Agneepath – Movie Review” »
The Indian audience has changed over the past decade and the only way to pull them to the theaters is to have an absolutely new experience to offer or bring across one of the three Khans. Hrithik Roshan has a tough task ahead since he has not been having the best of times over the last two years. He has received a lot of critical appreciation for Guzaarish but Kites had fallen flat and in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, he was only one of the three male leads. Remakes are a dreaded territory, especially in Bollywood where remakes of erstwhile golden era movies are either a hit or a miss ballgame. The myth was broken by Farhan Akhtar in 2006 when he remade the cult classic Amitabh Bachchan starrer “Don”. Sharukh Khan helmed by Farhan made a blockbuster out of a film that was hyped as well as anticipated to set the honeybees of a possible disaster in the waking. Subsequently there has been a sequel to the Don remake and the industry is basking in the glory of its commercial success. Cut to 2012, we would see the heartthrob of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan don the hat of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, the iconic underworld character immortalized by Amitabh Bachchan.
