Negative hype created for Ajay's Tezz
Not all is well for Priyadarshan and his producer Ratan Jain. Soon after the first look and the first official trailer of the Ajay Devgan starrer Tezz was released, the magnanimous fan base of South superstar Mohanlal have been more than upset.
The trailer features Mohanlal to an extent similar to what we saw of Anil Kapoor in the trailers of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. (We should add a footnote here that the initial trailers of the latest Tom Cruise blockbuster did not feature Anil Kapoor at all and it was only at the displeasure of Indian fans did the producer pull in some footage of the Indian star). This story is going to be repeated with Tezz. Bowing under pressure and running a risk of upsetting the huge South Indian movie audience, Priyadarshan and Ratan Jain may launch a trailer or two over the next few days that show a bit more of Mohanlal. Presently the actor has been completely sidelined in the teasers and justifiably since he only has a cameo and does not have a major role in the movie. Tezz is essentially a movie of Ajay Devgan and Anil Kapoor.
Priyadarshan obviously wanted to cash in on the success of Ajay Devgan’s last blockbuster Singham as an action hero and Mohanlal’s star stature in the South but that attempt for now is backfiring. Well, the trailers may be amended but it seems that the angry fans of Mohanlal would still be unhappy since he reportedly does not have much screen time in the final cut of the film. It would not be surprising to see if Mohanlal’s fans come to a conclusion as Rajnikant’s fans came up with after the latter’s cameo in Ra. One.
On an different note, it is being speculated that Tezz would have huge resemblance to Speed, the film that too Keanu Reeves to an all time high before Matrix and made him an A lister in Hollywood. Now, considering that is the case, since Tezz is about a train and not a bus or a ship, it may not be wrong for us to wonder that Tezz may be a modern day ‘Burning Train’. Albeit the premise and the characters may be different from the classic Dharmendra movie but similarities are bound to be drawn.
For now, we can only hope that Priyadarshan manages to satiate his and Mohanlal’s fans down South as he would not want to risk that segment of target audience.
