The story of Diya Aur Baati Hum is about Sandhya wanting to fulfill her dream of becoming an IPS officer. She wants to go above and beyond.

In Diya Aur Baati Hum Sooraj runs a sweets shop close to his house which has become increasingly popular around town. After Sooraj and Sandhya marry, it becomes difficult for Sandhya to continue to work on becoming an IPS Officer. She is unable to finish her graduation and in order to be able to live this dream, Sandhya gets help from her husband Sooraj.
